Father of missing Trevor Deeley dies not knowing what happened to him

A father who spent years searching for his missing son has passed away without finding out what happened to him.

Michael Deely of Naas, Co Kildare and formerly of Loughrea in Galway died on Thursday surrounded by his “loving family” at the TLC Centre in Maynooth.

His death notice reads that he is survived by his wife Ann and their adult children Mark, Michele, Pamela and Trevor who is described as being “still missing.”

He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren, his siblings, in laws, nephews, nieces and friends.

In December of 2015, Mr Deely told the Irish Times that “if you give up hope you give up everything.”

Mr Deely said that he tried to stay positive in relation to seeing his son again.

"You have to keep some positivity. That's our biggest problem: to remain focused and positive and not give up hope.

We don’t want people to forget about him,” he said. “It’s terrible, absolutely terrible. And you can see the effect on all the family at this time of year.

Everybody is feeling worn out by it. We say to people to keep watching and keep listening; keep an eye for Trevor and keep his name out there. We won’t let him be forgotten about : that’s the main thing.”

Meanwhile, on the 7th December 2000, Trevor attended his work Christmas party at the Hilton Hotel in Dublin.

He then went to Buck Whaley’s nightclub on Leeson Street which he left between 2.30am and 3.25am on December 8th.

The weather on the night in question was extremely wet and there was a taxi strike in progress.

At 3.35am, Trevor called to his place of work at Bank of Ireland in Fitzwilliam Place in Dublin.

Trevor Deely was last sighted on CCTV passing the Bank of Ireland ATM on Haddington Road at 4.14am.

Trevor Deely was 6ft 1”, slim build, short red/brown hair, fair complexion last sighted wearing a mustard and brown checked shirt, beige/grey corduroy flared trousers, dark deck shoes with white stripes, a green padded jacket, carrying a large dark blue umbrella with white ACC Bank lettering.

Gardaí at Pearse Street Garda station are appealing for information that will assist the Garda investigation into the disappearance of Trevor Deely. Even the smallest piece of information, which may seem insignificant, may assist the investigation.

Meanwhile, Mr Deely will be laid to rest tomorrow (Sat) at St Corban’s cemetery following 10am mass at the Church of Our Lady and St David, in Naas.
