A man has been injured after shots were fired at residential premises in Longford Town on Wednesday evening.

The incident occurred at approximately 7:50pm.

A man, aged in his 70s, has been taken to Mullingar hospital to be treated for injuries believed to be serious but non-life threatening.

A scene is currently being held for technical examination.

Gardaí say enquiries are ongoing, and no further information is available at this time.
