US professional eater takes on Davy Byrnes' 'Giant Irish Fish and Chips Challenge'

US professional eater Randy Santel has taken on a 3kg fish and chips challenge in Dublin's Davy Byrnes.

The gastro pub on Duke Street in Dublin city centre is famous for its mention in James Joyce's Ulysses.

The challenge involves eating a piece of cod weighing around 2kg, chips, and 10 deep-fried cheese bites, topped off with servings of mushy peas and tartar sauce.

The €75 meal is on the house if the diner can finish it off in under an hour.

Santel live-streamed his effort, seeing him beat the clock by consuming the whole meal, along with a glass of wine for good measure in just over 19 minutes.

A post on his Facebook page said it was his 1086th food challenge victory, and Santel is the first to complete Byrnes' challenge.

He ended his video by raising a pint of Guinness, adding: "Sláinte everybody, cheers to overall victory number 1086."
