A Rose of Tralee contestant who had been reported missing by her family to police in New Zealand has been found dead.

Monica Reid (26) was the Auckland Rose and took part in the New Zealand competition last month to pick a representative to travel to Ireland this coming August.

Ms Reid, an Atatū resident who worked as a transport network organiser, was in the process of completing a Masters in urban planning.

She was last seen on Friday afternoon in Matipo Road, Te Atatu Peninsula, and was believed to have been wearing a purple/pink puffer jacket.

In an update, North Shore, Rodney and West Auckland Police said a 26-year-old woman reported missing from Te Atatū Peninsula on Friday had been located deceased.

Police added: “Her death is not being treated as suspicious and will be referred to the Coroner. Police extend our sympathies to the woman’s family and loved ones.”

A temporary base at the Waitematā Rowing Club had been established, with multiple search groups in attendance.

Those involved included frontline police, the police maritime unit, land SAR (search and rescue), police SAR and detectives.

The Auckland Irish Club paid tribute to Ms Reid in a statement.

“Sending lots of love and condolences to the family of Monica Reid. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. May she rest in peace.”
