The body of a man has been recovered off the coast of Galway, gardaí have confirmed.

The man, who was aged in his 60s, will be taken to University Hospital Galway where a post-mortem examination will take place.

Officers – with the assistance of the RNLI, the Coast Guard and R115 rescue helicopter – took part in the operation on Saturday off the coast of Carna.

Gardaí said a file will be prepared for the Coroners Court and investigations will continue.
