Eight people have been taken to hospital after they sustained injuries when their flight from Doha to Dublin Airport experienced intense turbulence.

The incident happened when the Qatar Airways flight hit turbulence while airborne over Turkey.

Emergency services tended to 12 injured – which included passengers and staff – when the flight landed just before 1pm on Sunday.

Eight people were subsequently brought to hospital for treatment.

In a statement, Dublin Airport said it is continuing to provide full assistance to all passengers and staff.

It follows a recent incident involving turbulence on a flight from London to Singapore, in which one passenger died and several were injured after the plane hit turbulence and was forced to divert to Bangkok.
