A woman in her 50s has died in a three-car crash in Co Mayo.

The crash occurred on the N17 between Claremorris and Ballindine.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene and taken to the mortuary of Castlebar Hospital for a postmortem examination.

The drivers of the other two cars were taken to hospital for assessment where their injuries are described as non-life threatening.

The road was examined by collision investigators and gardaí are appealing for witnesses.

Any road users who may have camera footage and were travelling on the N17 at Ballindine at the time of the collision are asked to make this footage available to gardaí.

The crash follows two other fatal incidents on the same stretch of road in March.

A teenage pedestrian died after being struck by a car a short distance away, while a woman and her two children died after the car they were in collided with a lorry.
