Counter-protest staged as anti-immigration demonstrators gather in Dublin

Demonstrators gathered in Dublin for a protest over immigration on Monday.

Crowds gathered at the Garden of Remembrance in Dublin city centre before proceeding along O’Connell Street.

There was a strong Garda presence in the area during the demonstration.

Many protesters held Irish flags and placards bearing messages such as “Irish Lives Matter” and “Coolock Says No”.

Protesters also engaged in a number of chants, including “get them out”.

Meanwhile, a counter-protest took place outside the GPO on O’Connell Street where people held banners which read: “Unite against racism. Refugees welcome.”
