A man who is charged with burgling three apartments where a note with his name and number, as well as two condoms, were allegedly left at the home of a young woman has entered a plea of not guilty.

Szymon Kaczorowski (34) of Farran in Ovens, Co Cork appeared before Cork District Court on Wednesday by video link and stated his intention to plead not guilty.

Mr Kaczorowski has been in custody since December of last year in relation to the alleged offence. Judge Mary Dorgan adjourned the case until May 1st and remanded the accused in custody until his next court appearance.

Meanwhile, the court previously heard evidence from Garda Paraic O’Connor in relation to the alleged offence.

He said that Szymon Kaczorowski allegedly gained entry to a gated apartment complex at Mardyke Hall in Mardyke Walk in Cork city on December 10th, 2023.

“It is alleged he entered a bedroom in an apartment where he stole items belonging to (the woman residing there) such as a backpack, mobile phone, bank cards and photographs.

While in the bedroom he left a note with his name and phone number and details of his area of residence on it for the injured party. He left two unused condoms with this note. This apartment was occupied by two other students in their rooms.”

Garda O’Connor further alleged that the accusedentered a second apartment where the woman living there was at home alone.

“While she was in the kitchen she noticed the door opening and closing and she went to the hallway where she was confronted by a man unknown to her who left, but remained in the building. She was visibly shaken when gardaí arrived.”

It was also alleged that Mr Kaczorowski went to a third apartment where male students were sharing accommodation. He allegedly tried to enter bedrooms but only succeeded in getting into the living room where he helped himself to some drink.

Garda O’Connor said that the accused was arrested at the complex. It is alleged he made certain admissions in his garda interview including accepting that he left his phone number on the note in the first property.
