Dozens of gardaí have monitored a dissident republican-linked Easter Rising commemoration in Dublin city centre.

Uniformed Garda members and detective colleagues were in attendance as participants in the event paraded up and down O’Connell Street before gathering to hear speeches and lay wreaths outside the GPO.

Many of those marking the anniversary of the 1916 rebellion against British rule wore military-style garb, with dark glasses and berets. Three bands also marched in the procession.

The event, titled the 2024 Unfinished Revolution Easter Commemoration, was organised by the National Republican Commemoration Committee.

The committee is linked to Saoradh – a group the Police Service of Northern Ireland has described as the political wing of the New IRA.

The event passed off without significant incident.
