Two people have died after a house fire in Swinford, Co Mayo.

Gardaí and other emergency services attended the scene of a fire at a house on Tuesday morning at Deerpark on the outskirts of the town.

According to the Irish Times, the couple who have died are described as well known in the community.

Gardaí have sealed off the fire-damaged property pending a forensic examination.

Fire teams are still at the scene dampening down the remains of the residence.
