Man due in court charged in connection with Cobh fatal assault

A man is due to appear in court in Co Cork on Monday, charged in connection with the death of Ian Baitson in Cobh.

Mr Baitson, a father of two aged in his 30s, was injured in the incident which took place in a car park on the Newtown Road in Cobh shortly before 9pm on Friday, March 15th.

He was taken to Cork University Hospital for treatment, where he was pronounced dead on Tuesday.

Gardaí investigating the alleged assault subsequently upgraded the matter to a murder probe.

A man, also aged in his 30s, was arrested over the weekend and was charged in connection with Mr Baitson's death on Sunday.

He is due to appear before Midleton District Court at 10.30am.
