A man who was killed during an attack with a samurai sword has been named locally.

Ian Baitson, from Cobh in Cork, died after the incident which took place in a car park on the Newtown Road on Friday night.

The father of one was brought to Cork University Hospital with serious injuries to his leg and passed away earlier on Tuesday.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone with any information about the attack to come forward.
