Former Garda station transformed into four-bed home for €400,000

This is one Garda station where you wouldn’t mind staying the night.

Originally built in 1860 by Lord Digby, the former Garda station in Geashill, Co Offaly, has been transformed into a two-storey home with a rich heritage.

Offering 202sq m of living space, the detached house has an entrance porch, hallway, open-plan kitchen/dining room, sitting room, ground floor bedroom, utility room and ground floor bathroom, while on the first floor there are three double bedrooms and a family bathroom.

The ceiling height on the ground floor of the property reaches more than 12 feet, giving the rooms a spacious feel.

Externally, the house is made of yellow brick with tooled coin stones and stone surrounds to the windows. The restoration includes the addition of the Garda station's original clock.

Gated access to the rear of the property leads to a walled outdoor garden, complete with a lawn and original cut stone sheds.

The restored property is located in the heart of Geashill village, with Tullamore 13km away and Portarlington 14km away. Train stations in Tullamore and Portarlington offer multiple daily services to Dublin and Galway.

The building is listed as a protected structure on the County Offaly Record of Protected Structures and is recognised on the National Inventory of Architectural Heritage.

The Old Garda Station is for sale for €400,000 through DNG Kelly Duncan. For more information and photos, visit myhome.ie
