Gardai in Cork used a stinger device to stop a car which fled from a checkpoint and smashed into cars in Cork on Sunday morning.

A man in his 40s was arrested following the incident.

Gardaí attempted to stop a car in the Faggot Hill area when the vehicle took off from the area towards Cork City.

The car collided with an official Garda Vehicle and a number of stationary vehicles.

The vehicle was brought to a stop on Thomas Davis Street in Blackpool following the deployment of a stinger device.

No injuries have been reported.

Gardaí say investigations are ongoing.
