A man injured in a serious assault in Co Tipperary earlier this week has died from his injuries.

Gardaí confirmed the man, aged in his 60s, had been taken to Tipperary University Hospital for treatment following the incident in Dundrum on Thursday.

He has since died and a post-mortem examination on his remains is due to be carried out by State Pathologist Dr Margot Bolster on Sunday.

The scene of the incident in Dundrum has been preserved for technical examination.

A man, also aged in his 60s, was arrested in connection with the matter and has since been charged.

He is due to appear before a special sitting of Newcastlewest District Court on Sunday afternoon.
