A young man has been killed in a road collision in Co Sligo.

He was driving an SUV which veered off the road on the N17 at Ballinacarrow, shortly after 8.15pm on Thursday night.

The man, who was aged in is late teens, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A man who was a passenger in the vehicle was assessed by emergency services but didn't need hospital treatment.

The local Coroner has been notified, and a postmortem examination is scheduled to take place.

The road at the scene is currently closed to traffic, with diversions in place. Garda forensic collision investigators will conduct a technical examination of the scene.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the single-vehicle crash to come forward.
