A young woman has died in a car crash in Co Waterford.

The driver, aged in her 20s, was the sole occupant of the car when it crashed at around 10.15pm on Monday on the R685.

She was pronounced dead at the scene at Quillia near Tramore.

Her body has been taken to the mortuary at University Hospital Waterford. A postmortem examination will be arranged, gardaí said.

The R685 at Quillia is closed while Garda forensic collision investigators carry out an examination of the area. Local diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
