Funeral of former taoiseach John Bruton to be held on Saturday

The funeral of former taoiseach John Bruton will be held on Saturday in Dunboyne, Co Meath.

The former Fine Gael leader, who served as taoiseach from 1994 to 1997, died on Tuesday following a long illness.

Mr Bruton will be reposing at Saints Peter's and Paul's Church in Dunboyne on Friday evening.

A state funeral will take place at the church at 11am on Saturday, followed by his burial in Rooske Cemetery.

In a statement confirming the 76-year-old's death, his family said he died in the Mater Private Hospital in Dublin, surrounded by his family.

He is survived by his wife Finola, son Matthew, and daughters; Juliana, Emily and Mary-Elizabeth.
