Three people have been killed and one injured in a road crash in Co Carlow overnight.

The single-vehicle incident happened around 11.30pm on the N80 Wexford Road at Leagh.

The driver of the vehicle and two passengers were pronounced dead at the scene. It is understood the three deceased were all aged in their 20s, and from the Kiltegan area of Co Wicklow.

The injured person, a man in his 20s who was an occupant of the car, was taken to St Luke's General Hospital for treatment. Gardaí said his injuries are serious but not life-threatening.

The N80 at Leagh has been closed to allow for a forensic examination of the crash scene to take place. Local diversions have been put in place.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone with information to contact Carlow Garda station on 059-913 6620, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800-666 111, or any Garda station.

Those with camera (including dash-cam) footage from the area between 11.15pm and midnight are asked to make it available to investigating gardaí.
