Wind warnings in place for several counties

A status yellow wind alert is in place, covering seven counties across the North and northwest.

In the Republic, a warning covering Donegal, Sligo, Leitrim, Mayo and Galway began at 8am and will remain in place until 1pm.

Met Éireann said there will be strong and gusty south-west winds for the duration of the alert.

Meanwhile, the UK Met Office has issued a similar warning for Antrim and Derry.

The yellow wind alert began at 9am, and will remain in place until 5pm on Wednesday evening.

A gale warning was also in place overnight, covering Valentia to Malin Head to Carnsore Point and the Irish Sea. It is also due to end at 5pm.
