RTÉ board had not given written approval for Toy Show musical, report finds

The Toy Show musical, which recorded losses of €2.2 million, had not been granted written approval from the RTÉ board, according to the findings of a new report.

Minister for Media Catherine Martin confirmed on Wednesday that she had received a report into the production.

The report was carried out by auditing firm Grant Thornton and has not yet been published.

It is understood to have found there was no written record of approval being given by the RTÉ board for the musical and that there was a lack of governance over the project, according to The Irish Times.

The report focused on how RTÉ ended up with losses of €2.2 million from the musical.

A second report into the management of staff severances at the national broadcaster is also due to be completed in the near future.
