A man has been charged in connection with an aggravated burglary and assault in Dublin on Tuesday night.

The incident took place at a residence on Kilbarron Road in Coolock.

Gardaí said a large amount of criminal damage was done to the property, and a man aged in his 20s was seriously assaulted.

He was taken to Beaumont Hospital for treatment, where he remains in serious condition.

A man aged in his 50s was arrested in connection with the incident and was held under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

He has since been charged and is due to appear before the Criminal Courts of Justice on Thursday.

Gardaí said investigations into the matter are ongoing.
