A range of knives, slash hooks and machetes – as well as two suspected pipe bombs – were among 30 items seized by gardaí in Cork.

The operation was conducted in north Cork as part of an ongoing investigation into a number of violent disorder and criminal incidents in Charleville in December and January.

Armed gardaí and dog units were involved in the searches of eight premises which also resulted in the seizure of cannabis, knives, golf clubs and axes.

Baseball bats and a boxcutter knife were also seized.

A photo showing the items seized also included 16 canisters of nitrous oxide.

Five people were arrested in connection with the seizures.

Three of the five have been charged and are due to appear in court on Thursday, while two remained in Garda custody.
