A sixth man has been arrested in connection with a large drug seizure in Co Limerick earlier this week.

Approximately 300kg of cocaine, with an estimated value of €21 million, was discovered onboard a ship docked in Foynes port on Tuesday.

The registered bulk cargo vessel had arrived from Canada, and was boarded by Revenue officers who located the drugs.

A search of the vessel remained ongoing on Friday.

Five men were arrested earlier on Friday in connection with the seizure.

The men, aged between 35 and 50, were arrested for offences relating to the importation of controlled drugs.

Gardaí confirmed a sixth man (32) was arrested on Friday evening for the same offence.

The six men are detained at a Garda station in the Limerick division.
