Man arrested over cash-in-transit robbery armed with hammer

A man has been arrested in Dublin following an armed robbery of cash in transit.

The incident took place in Cornmarket, Dublin 8 on Friday morning shortly after 6am when the man, armed with a hammer, approached security employees at a cash machine.

He demanded the contents of the cash box with was being transported and then fled the scene with the box.

Gardaí subsequently located and arrested the man, aged in his 30s, and the full sum of cash was recovered.

The man is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a Garda station in Dublin.

Gardaí confirmed no injuries were reported from the incident, and asked anyone who witnessed the robbery to come forward, particularly road users who were travelling in the Cornmarket area between 6am and 7am with dash-cam footage.
