An elderly man has died in a house fire in Roundwood, Co Wicklow overnight.

The fire occurred around 12.30am at a cottage close to Luggala in the north-east of the county.

Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene, confirming a man aged in his 80s had died.

A statement from Gardaí said the scene has been preserved and investigations into the matter are ongoing, and a post-mortem examination will be carried out on the man's remains in due course.
