A US woman charged with importing cannabis worth €450,000 on a flight from Los Angeles to Dublin Airport deferred her bail application on Wednesday and remains in prison.

Mother of one, Adrianne St Clair, 30, of Denker Avenue, Los Angeles, was arrested on Friday after 22.5 kilos of suspected cannabis was discovered at Terminal 2 when revenue officers and detector dog, Blue, stopped and searched the baggage.

Ms St Clair was held in custody on Saturday and appeared at Dublin District Court on Wednesday.

She has been charged with unlawful importation and possession of cannabis and having it with intent to supply, contrary to the Misuse of Drugs Act.

Defence solicitor Paddy McGarry told Judge Treasa Kelly that his client had decided to defer her bail application for two weeks.

Judge Kelly remanded her in prison to appear again on October 11th.

The court had heard she made "no reply" when charged and was reserving her position on bail but “is keen to move this matter on”.

She faces a Garda objection to bail.

Ms St Clair has been granted legal aid after the court said “she has no means in this country”.

The woman has yet to indicate a plea, and gardaí must obtain directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions.
