Charlie Bird leads nationwide fundraiser for hospice services

Charlie Bird was one of thousands who took part in a coffee morning in support of hospice services.

The RTÉ broadcaster and his wife Claire were at Wicklow Hospice to mark the event, just weeks after he revealed he is receiving care at home in his ongoing battle with motor neurone disease.

More than 2,500 people registered to host a Bewley’s Big Coffee Morning Social for Hospice this year.

“I never thought I would need Hospice care, but since they have come into our lives, I have realised the massively important nature of their work in helping people at end-of-life and those with life-limiting conditions,” Bird (74) said.

“Let’s have one last push to help us reach this €2 million target. There is still time for individuals and businesses to host an event or simply donate to their local Hospice.”

If you have not already registered to host a coffee morning, you can do so until September 30th at 0818-995 996. If you can not host or attend a coffee morning, a donation can be made to your local Hospice at hospicecoffeemorning.ie/donate.
