Two people have died after a house fire in Co Cavan.

Emergency services rushed to the blaze in the Ballyjamesduff area at about 2am on Sunday.

A woman in her 80s and a man in his 50s were pronounced dead at the scene.

Their bodies have been taken to Cavan General Hospital for a postmortem.

Gardaí said the scene is currently preserved for a technical examination and the coroner has been notified.
