A woman has been killed following a collision with a train in Co Sligo.

The pedestrian, aged in her 40s, was fatally injured in the incident on the train line at Knocks Park, Ballisadare at around 4pm on Wednesday.

A second woman, aged in her 20s, was taken to Sligo University Hospital with serious injuries.

The coroner has been notified and a forensic examination of the scene is due to take place.

Rail services on the line were disrupted on Wednesday but have since resumed, with Irish Rail confirming: "A full schedule of services will operate today on the Sligo to Dublin Connolly route."
