Mayo man killed fighting in Ukraine

A Mayo man has been killed in Ukraine while fighting against Russian forces.

As the Western People reports, Finbar Cafferkey's death in eastern Ukraine was confirmed by his family on Thursday afternoon.

Mr Cafferkey, who was aged in his 40s and originally from Achill, recently travelled to Ukraine as a military volunteer.

He had previously fought alongside the Kurdish militia against the so-called Islamic State in Syria.
