A sequel to How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days is in the works at Paramount, with original star Kate Hudson on board to produce.

Development on the film is in the “very early days” and it is understood the studio is currently in search of script writers.

The intention is for both Hudson and Matthew McConaughey to reprise their roles from the original 2003 film, sources confirmed.

Hudson will produce the film alongside Stacey Sher.

Sher has produced a number of films including Pulp Fiction, Matilda, Erin Brockovich and Django Unchained.

In the original film, Hudson plays journalist Andy Anderson who writes “How To” articles for a women’s magazine.

She is inspired to write an article about how to date a man – and then drive him away – using “the classic mistakes women make”.

At the same time, advertising executive Benjamin Barry (played by McConaughey) makes a bet with his colleagues that he can make a woman fall in love with him in time for the company ball in 10 days.

The film was a commercial success, grossing 177 million US dollars (£129 million), and is considered a staple of the romantic comedy genre.

The yellow Carolina Herrera dress Hudson wears near the end of the film has also become an iconic piece of cinema fashion.

Hudson is known for her appearances in other romantic comedies including You, Me And Dupree, Bride Wars and Fool’s Gold, where she reunited with McConaughey.

He has also appeared in several films in the genre including The Wedding Planner, Failure To Launch and Ghosts Of Girlfriends Past.

Representatives for Hudson and McConaughey have been contacted for comment.
