Anne Hathaway appears as haunting author in eerie new psychological thriller

Anne Hathaway appears as a chilling and haunting author opposite Dakota Johnson in the eerie new psychological thriller, Verity.
The pair star in the upcoming film based on Colleen Hoover’s 2018 novel of the same name, which follows struggling writer Lowen Ashleigh (Johnson) as she is hired to complete a bestselling book series after its original author, Verity Crawford (Hathaway), is left unable to continue due to an accident.
After Lowen relocates to the remote Crawford estate to ghostwrite for Verity, she uncovers what appears to be Verity’s autobiographical notes, which include disturbing and twisted confessions about her husband, Jeremy Crawford (Josh Hartnett).
“You must have questions” Jeremy says to Lowen in the newly released trailer for the film.
“Why can’t your wife finish her book series?” she asks him before revealing that Verity is bed-bound and likely to never walk or talk after a near-fatal crash.
The trailer shows the writer’s world spiral as the lines between reality and fiction blur, including one moment where Lowen sits on Jeremy’s lap wearing a silk robe and leans in to kiss him, however, when she pulls back she notices her lip is bleeding and the person she was kissing is instead Verity.
“A writer’s words should be honest and bloody. And a little bit terrifying,” Verity says in a menacing voice.
Lowen adds: “This place is insane, I feel like I’m losing my mind.”
The trailer ends with a chilling remix of Kylie Minogue’s Can’t Get You Out Of My Head playing, with Verity staring directly into the camera wearing a red suit jacket and matching red lipstick, and says: “This is your final warning, only darkness ahead.”
Hathaway’s role is the latest in a back-to-back year for the actress, who also stars in Christopher Nolan’s adaptation of The Odyssey, The Devil Wears Prada 2, The End of Oak Street, and Mother Mary.
She is also known for her Oscar-award winning performance as Fantine in the film adaptation of Les Miserables.
Verity will be out in cinemas from October 2.
