Rapper Megan Thee Stallion is to leave her role in the Broadway production of Moulin Rouge.

The 31-year-old is the first woman to play nightclub owner Zidler in the production’s history, having joined the show in March.

The star, whose real name is Megan Pete, said in a post on Instagram: “It’s been such an honour to be part of thee Moulin Rouge family and I’ve met so many amazing people in this theatre.

“Y’all work so hard and I have so much respect for the dedication, the stamina, the work ethic, the time and the effort y’all put into the work. I’m so grateful for the cast and crew that made this experience so meaningful.

“And to all the hotties that showed up or planned to attend, thank you for supporting me during this incredible journey. I love y’all, see you soon.”

The Savage rapper said her last performance in Moulin Rouge at New York’s Al Hirschfeld Theatre would be on May 1st.

Announcing the Texas-born artist’s departure, a statement from the production read: “Megan Thee Stallion’s last performance at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre will be Friday May 1.

“Join us in raising a glass to our first-ever female Zidler, and be sure to catch her final shows this week.”

It comes after she split with her boyfriend, basketball player Klay Thompson, last week, according to a statement issued to US outlet People.

The rapper has achieved two top 10 UK singles including a number one, along with two hit albums, and is best known for the song WAP, which she featured on with fellow US rapper Cardi B.

The Broadway production of Moulin Rouge also stars US singer Kelsie Watts and is running until July 26th.
