Stranger Things animated show coming to Netflix

An animated version of Stranger Things will be coming to Netflix in 2026.

Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 is set in the Stranger Things universe between Seasons 2 and 3, and features characters viewers are familiar with - but with a twist.

Stranger Things producer Eric Robles and co-creators Matt and Ross Duffer will be making the show.

“With animation there’s really no limits,” said Ross Duffer. "Eric and his team can just go wild … and they have.”

Mr Robles, who is executive producing the project via Flying Bark Productions, notes that the series will capture “the magic of Hawkins in a new way,” adding, “get your flashlight, get your backpack because it’s going to be amazing.”

The show is set in 1985, during a freezing winter in Hawkins. The characters about to embark on a journey fighting new monsters, unravelling a paranormal mystery terrorising their town.

The idea for the series came to the Duffers when they were brainstorming other concepts within the world of Hawkins.

The cast is Brooklyn Davey Norstedt as Eleven, Jolie Hoang-Rappaport as Max, Luca Diaz as Mike, Ej (Elisha) Williams as Lucas, Braxton Quinney as Dustin, Ben Plessala as Will, and Brett Gipson as Hopper.

Additional voice cast includes Odessa A’zion, Janeane Garofalo, and Lou Diamond Phillips.

The team also announced that series 5 of Stranger Things will be released on Netflix in three stages: four episodes on November 26th, three episodes on Christmas, and the finale episode on New Year's Eve.

There will also be a Stranger Things 5 Virtual Watch Party on November 6th, with cast interviews, surprise appearances, and the first five minutes of the debut episode.
