Singer-songwriter Johnny Duhan named as man who drowned off Galway coast

Tributes have been paid to Limerick musician Johnny Duhan, who died while swimming off the coast of Co Galway on Tuesday morning.

The body of the singer, who was in his 70s, was recovered after a large scale operation was launched at Silver Strand near Barna.

The search will continue on Wednesday morning for a woman in her 30s who was also caught up in the same incident.

It emerged that while at the scene gardaí became aware that a woman had entered the water and failed to return from a swim.

Gardaí said they are searching the area with the Coast Guard, the RNLI and local volunteers.

Mr Duhan played music for almost 60 years and wrote The Voyage, which was made famous by Christy Moore on his album of the same name in 2005.
