Irish TV star Angela Scanlon will take on the Charleston for Strictly Come Dancing’s movie-themed show this weekend.

Along with her professional partner Carlos Gu, the Meath-born presenter will perform the dance to the track Who’s Got The Pain, which featured in the 1958 rom-com Damn Yankees, on Saturday night.

Directed by George Abbott and Stanley Donen, the film was an adaptation of a Broadway musical, which was itself based on the 1954 novel The Year The Yankees Lost The Pennant by Douglass Wallop.

On Saturday night, Scanlon performed a lively jive to Trouble by Shampoo while sporting red lipstick and dressed in a leather-look top and a red and white skirt.

She scored 29 points for the routine, putting her joint fifth with EastEnders star Bobby Brazier and his dance partner Dianne Buswell.

Following the dance, watched by her husband in the audience, head judge Shirley Ballas said she was “in awe” of Scanlon’s leg positions.

On Monday, Scanlon revealed she has been trying to recuperate from the busy weekend by stretching while wearing an LED face mask.

Alongside a clip posted to Instagram of her recovery techniques, the 39-year-old wrote: “This is my attempt at a full-body reset before starting another week of rehearsals with a new dance.

“Last week’s was quick, this one is quicker and had a PROP.… how do I control my legs, arms and a saucepan?!

“Send good vibes and well wishes to my blistered feet and achy bones.”

Week two of the dancing competition saw musical theatre star Layton Williams and professional dancer Nikita Kuzmin place first with their quickstep to Puttin’ On The Ritz, which landed them a score of 36 out of 40.

Former Family Fortunes host Les Dennis was the first celebrity to leave the competition after he found himself at the bottom of the leaderboard following his samba to Rock The Boat by The Hues Corporation with his dance partner Nancy Xu.

During Sunday’s dance-off he went up against radio presenter Nikita Kanda, but the judges voted to send him home.
