The new mobile phone text scams lure customers to call a fake bank phone line, with more than 20 fake Bank of Ireland phone lines being shut down by the bank this month.

An average of 1,000 scams texts or calls are received each day

The scam was detected the bank's fraud team who then reported it to the Garda National Economic Crime Bureau
