The Dublin – Heathrow route, the second busiest air route in Europe, was severely impacted.

It comes after more than 1,000 flights to and from Heathrow were cancelled on Friday due to a power outage.

Some airlines are running additional flights from other London hubs, or using larger aircraft.

The route, operated by Loganair, is jointly funded by the UK Department for Transport and the Stormont Department for the Economy.

The airline said its operations were hit by a technical issue which has since been resolved.

The Dublin-based airline said the extra October half-term flights at the Essex airport will have capacity for 100,000 passengers.
