That is according to a spokesman for Dublin Zoo who said today that “Dublin Zoo continues to incur significant costs related to managing the Elephant Endotheliotropic Herpesvirus (EEHV) outbreak”.

Two elephants died from the EEHV disease in July.

The sudden deaths of some 330 elephants in northwestern Botswana earlier this year may have occurred because they drank water contaminated by toxic blue-green algae, the country’s government has announced.

Botswana says it is investigating a staggeringly high number of elephant carcasses found in the popular Okavango Delta area of the southern African nation in recent weeks.
