St Michael’s GFC and St Michael’s LGFC will mark significant milestones when they host a gala celebration in the Rochestown Park Hotel on Saturday, November 7.

The occasion will honour 75 years since the foundation of St Michael’s GFC, which was established in The Leaping Salmon Public House in Blackrock Village in 1951. The club’s ladies section, St Michael’s LGFC, will also celebrate its 25th anniversary after being founded by Bridie O’Connell in 2001.

The event will provide an opportunity for members past and present to reflect on the club’s rich history, a journey that has included its share of highs and lows over the decades.

Club officials say recent successes on the field are a testament to the resilience and character that have defined St Michael’s throughout its history.

Looking to the future, the anniversary year is also set to coincide with a major development for the club, with a new 4G playing facility. The project is seen as another important step in supporting the club’s thriving underage structures for both boys and girls.

The celebrations will be hosted by well-known RTÉ broadcaster Marty Morrissey, who has his own connection to the club having previously worn the St Michael’s jersey.

Current chairman Brendan Ryan and ladies chairperson Margaret Golden will lead the respective clubs through what is a landmark year in their histories.

Adding further significance to the occasion is the recent success of the club’s junior ladies team, who captured county final honours. The victorious squad will be presented with their medals during the celebrations.

Music on the night will be provided by the Derek Burke Band, while organisers have reported strong demand for tickets, with sales surpassing expectations ahead of the event.
