Mossy’s Diamond of Mayfield wins the Puppy All-Ireland draghunt in Ballyclough

Mossy’s Diamond of Mayfield produced a riveting finish to win the Puppy All-Ireland draghunt in superb style at Ballyclough on Sunday.
In a 10-mile course that took 34 minutes to complete the Mayfield hound trained by brothers Kyle and Callum McCarthy proved there is replacement for class and stamina.
After being crowned Puppy champion this season this latest win completed a magnificent double with trainer Kyle McCarthy delighted with his magnificent win.
“We have had a tremendous season and we were over the moon to win the Puppy championship but to add the All- Ireland title is a dream come true for us.
“Many thanks to our fellow club members at Mayfield and indeed to all our friends for ensuring we finished the season on an incredible high,” said Kyle McCarthy.
Northern Hunt trainer Emma Power with her first ever hounds had a great season and she was over the moon to see her charge Gypsy Rock take the runner up slot.
It has also been a great season for Shanakiel harriers trainer Mary Barrett and her consistent charge Charlotte’s Lass filled third ticket.
The concluding ticketing hounds were Naoi’s Boy, Storm and Starlight.
The open non-winners end of season finale is always a draghunt that attracts great interest for all hounds that have failed to secure a win throughout the season.
The betting was wide open and reports from the various vantage points suggested they were driving the hunt at pace.
When the hounds came into view on the finish they were a few in with a chance of landing the spoils but it all changed on the race to the tape as the eventual winner Stargaze showed a terrific turn of foot that was enough to land the number one slot.
Mary Barrett is a dedicated trainer whose hounds are a credit to this lady but the Shankakiel harriers handler had to be content with second ticket on this occasion with Pixie’s Mexican Dream as Knock’s Ozzy secured third ticket for trainer Ger McCarthy.
The remaining placed hounds were Hannah Bawn, Knock’s Mac and Misty.
It was obvious the winning trainer Frank Allen was pleased with his first win of the season.
“Stargaze on his best day is a decent hound and I am delighted to have broken my duck with him,” said Frank.
In the open Senior draghunt English International hero Zodiac Jack got back to winning ways when crossing the tape ahead of Mexican Jet of Shanakiel harriers and kennelmate Casey Jack The Cork city and county harriers association would like to thank the farming community of Ballyclough for their magnificent cooperation in ensuring this meeting ran off without a hitch.

On Sunday next the Senior All Ireland draghunt will be hosted at Carrig Na bhFear with the scheduled slip at 3pm.
Once again the Blue Riband draghunt will be sponsored by the Gurranabraher Credit Union and good look to all trainers and their hounds that will bring the curtain down on the 2026 season.
