FAI U17 National Cup took centre stage last weekend with several Cork teams advancing

The FAI U17 National Cup took centre stage last Saturday with Douglas Hall, Wilton United, Carrigtwohill United, Midleton, St Mary’s, Buttevant and Fermoy all advancing to the next round.

Douglas Hall entertained Castleview at home at Moneygourney last Friday night and when both these sides met at O’Sullivan Park in their league fixture both sides had to settle for a share of the spoils 1-1. 

However, the Hall used their big pitch to their advantage and led 1-0 in the 33rd minute through Harry Tett. Josh Carey increased Hall’s lead 2-0 on the hour mark and that was enough to see them through.

Carrigtwohill United also had a home fixture against U17 League 1 side Springfield Ramblers at Ballyadam Park and were convincing winners by 5-2.

Aaron Power had Carrigtwohill two goals up in the opening 10 minutes and then goals from Sam Ahern, Jack Lombard and Brayan Wiecek gave them a 5-0 lead at half-time. 

Springfield to their credit battled hard in the second half with goals from Julian O’Connell and Ben Lynch, but it wasn’t enough as they bowed out of the competition.

Midleton traveled to Ardath Park and beat the hosts Youghal United by three goals to one.

Pablo Sanz game the Magpies an early 1-0 lead in the opening minute of the game and they held that lead at the break.

Youghal equalised 1-1 four minutes from the restart through Jamie Colman, however, goals from Oscar Power and Filip Klimka saw the Magpies through to the next round.

Rockmount made their trip to Bandon Town Park to take on the hosts Bandon and they were given a real fright as the Premier League side were taken to extra time before two goals from Calvin Blake saw them win the cup tie 2-0.

St Mary’s advanced to the next round with a 4-1 victory over Coachford at Mary’s Park. Scott Twomey grabbed a brace for the Saints with Eoin Horgan and Jamie Maher completing their scoring, Adam White got the goal for Coachford.

Everton hosted Buttevant at Everton Park, but they bowed out of the competition losing 4-2. Buttevant led 2-1 at halftime courtesy of goals from Alieu Jalloh and Darragh O’Connor with Alex Byrne netting for Everton. 

The visitors went 3-1 up when O’Connor hit the back of the net, however, Eric McGainor pulled a goal back for Everton, but then Jalloh grabbed his second goal of the game to seal victory for Buttevant.

Leeside United entertained Fermoy at Leeside Patk, however, bowed out of the competition losing 4-0. 

Jamie Colman had the visitors 1-0 up at half-time and Gerald Kinczewski-Murphy (2) and Colman netted in the second half to ensure their passage into the next round.
