Valley Rovers and DCT on course for BL title showdown

DCT remain on course to win a first Grandon’s Toyota Second Division title when they romped to a 16th triumph at Camden last Sunday afternoon.

The hosts goals came courtesy of Dean Farrissey (2), Robbie Burke, Cameron McIndoe, Matthew Field and three own goals. 

The win keeps DCT firmly in the driving seat ahead of next Saturday afternoon’s showdown with leaders FR Valley Rangers at Conna Community Centre (kick-off 2.30pm). 

A win for either secure the title while a draw hands the initiative to DCT who still have one remaining fixture.

ePower East Cork 2

ePower East Cork went into their final fixture at Mayfield Park last Saturday afternoon knowing nothing less than a win would suffice to keep their automatic title hopes alive. 

Although out of the contention for promotion, Pfizer FC posed a formidable opponent having already shown their credentials to compete with the best when they inflicted a 4-1 defeat on long time leaders Valley Rangers back in July. 

In a tight encounter the hosts finally got the measure of the visitors when scoring twice inside three minutes in the final fourteen minutes of the fixture. 

First, Ryan Murray finally broke the deadlock with his 18th of the season in the 76th minute. 

The impressive Daragh Bagnell Hartnett, himself a prolific scorer for the Whitegate outfit, added the crucial second three minutes later to keep ePower in contention.

AI completed the double over Andy Sull’s Hair when Promise Okafor crossed for Alvin Johnson to power in the only goal of the game in the 65th minute in the late afternoon kick-off at Mayfield Park last Saturday afternoon.

Champions and Mooney Cup holders ISF Ballyphehane Celtic kept their unbeaten run in the league going with just two fixtures remaining after they saw off close rivals Abbey Business for a third time at Gortnaglough Community Park. 

Celtic keeper Jamie O’Sullivan was called into action as early as the 4th minute when he spectacularly denied John McLoughlin from point blank range. 

The home side jumped in front two minutes later through Stephen Ring who finished low into the bottom corner. 

There was nothing O’Sullivan could do to prevent McLoughlin equalizing in the 33rd minute from an audacious overhead kick into the top corner from the edge of the area. 

Ballyphehane regained the lead through Chris Bowen’s fine solo effort early in the second half only for Ronan Twomey to tie up the contest for a second time on sixty-eight minutes. 

The introduction of Celtic’s player-manager James Corcoran in the fray tipped the scales in the home team’s favour when Corcoran showed all his experience up front to win the race with the keeper and put his side in front for a third time. 

After Bobby Tier drilled in a fourth, O’Sullivan still had to be at his best to deny an Abbey revival with a number of excellent saves. 

The Frank Linehan Cup could see these two excellent sides meet again and what a treat that’ll be.

Kelvin Forde’s brace for MHS was cancelled out by Brian Hickey’s 9th minute opener for Cork Hospitals by the 27th minute at Gortnaglough Community Park last Sunday afternoon. 

A second half hat-trick from Brian Senyonyi looked to have secured a precious three points for Gavin Woods’ charges. 

However, a late rally from the visitors resulted in two goals inside the final five minutes from Tomás Sheehan to rescue a point for the Ringmahon outfit.

DHF Grangevale 2 

Doolan’s Cow 7 

The highlight of the Cow’s 7-2 win over DHF Grangevale last Sunday afternoon at Mayfield Park was a second half hat-trick from the league’s top marksman, Jamie Murphy, his third a spectacular overhead kick, (Billy Tabbesque),from a corner. 

Paul Koffi opened the scoring in the 15th minute from close range following a sustained bout of pressure which produced three corners. 

Koffi made in two-nil on the half hour before Aaron O’Sullivan reduced the deficit before half time with his 11th of the campaign. 

Once Tony O’Reilly set up Shaun Teegan for a third for Doolan’s in the 62nd minute, Murphy showed his class to score three inside a ten minute spell before O’Reilly got a 7th in the 86th minute. 

Corey Harris ran through to round replacement keeper Roy McCarthy and score his 97th goal for the Vale in added time.
