Premier JFC: Kinsale seek response as St Nick's bring pedigree

The McCarthy Insurance Group Premier JFC heads into a weekend with two quarter‑finals and a relegation play‑off down for decision.
The grade has been tight all season, and across Shanbally, Church Cross and Carrigadrohid promise more of the same.
Saturday’s quarter‑final between Kinsale and St Nick’s in Shanbally brings together two sides with contrasting recent form.
Kinsale, managed by Kevin Cahill, will be looking for a reaction after losing to St Vincent’s last time out, even though they were already qualified. Cahill will expect a sharper edge here, and he has key figures capable of delivering it.
Brian Coughlan and Gearóid Finn have been central to their attacking play.
St Nick’s, who reached the final last year, are ticking along nicely again. They have a strong spine and enough experience to navigate tight knockout games. Robert Downey remains a major figure for them, offering leadership and presence, while Jack O'Sullivan gives St Nick’s a focal point.
The relegation play‑off between Na Piarsaigh and Urhan in Church Cross carries a very different type of pressure.
Both sides have struggled for form this year, and the stakes are stark. Na Piarsaigh were in the senior football ranks as recently as 2012, and their fall through the grades has been steep.
Sunday’s quarter‑final between Inniscarra and Millstreet in Carrigadrohid is another compelling tie. Inniscarra will look to the likes of Liam O’Connor and Seán McCarthy up front to carry their scoring threat.
Millstreet, who were in relegation trouble last year, have turned the ship around impressively.
Darragh Cashman, the Cork footballer, will be crucial to Millstreet's chances of winning.
