John O'Brien in clinical form as Kinsale overwhelm Carrigaline

Kinsale proved far too strong for Carrigaline's second team in the Ross Oil South East Junior A Hurling Championship at Belgooly on Sunday.

Kinsale produced an outstanding performance to set up a semi-final with Belgooly as three goals within 18 minutes decided this, with Cillian Fitzpatrick and David Forde making no mistake.

Kinsale opened brilliantly as they led by 1-2 to 0-0 after only four minutes with David Forde contributing 1-1. Moments later Noah Ryan delivered to Cillian Fitzpatrick, who billowed the Carrigaline net.

As Kinsale dominated they had stretched their lead to 2-8 to no score, as John O'Brien contributed five approaching the midway point of the first half.

Carrigaline finally opened their account on 15 minutes as Cian O’Donovan registered their first score. However, any chance of a Carrigaline revival was well and truly snuffed out as Fitzpatrick scored his second goal on 18 minutes as they led 3-9 to 0-2.

They never lost heart though as O’Donovan (2) and Sean Browne landed points but Kinsale were tagging on scores too as they led 3-14 to 0-5 at the break.

It was the same story in the early stages of the second half, but Carrigaline had Josh Carolan to thank, producing a hatful of outstanding saves.

With John O’Brien continuing to pick off scores, Carrigaline were rewarded for their second-half efforts as Ian O’Donoghue rattled the back of the Kinsale net on 45 minutes with a penalty: 3-20 to 1-9.

Unfortunately for Carrig it never produced the desired effect as Kinsale kept their nerve and added five without reply over the last 15 minutes, including two fine strikes from Shane O’Callaghan to deservedly take the win.
