Castlehaven against Knocknagree is unquestionably the pick of the final-round ties in the McCarthy Insurance Group Premier SFC this Sunday.
It's pretty much a winner-takes-all showdown in Group 3.
Sunday at 4pm in Páirc Uí Rinn will stage a meeting that, not long ago, would have felt unimaginable: Castlehaven, perennial contenders with decades of senior pedigree, facing a Knocknagree side who were Junior A as recently as 2017. The gulf that once existed has been erased by one of Cork football’s most remarkable rises.
Knocknagree’s ascent has been shaped by the standards, continuity and ambition instilled by John Fintan Daly, and he would absolutely have taken this scenario at the start of the year — a final group game where victory secures a knockout place.

For a club experiencing its first Premier Senior campaign, reaching the last day with their fate in their own hands is a measure of how far they have travelled and how competitive they have become at the top tier.
Castlehaven, meanwhile, arrive with the familiar expectation of progressing. Their form line across league and championship has been typically strong, and their blend of seasoned operators and emerging talent ensures they carry both physical presence and scoring power.
They were pushed hard by Knocknagree in the Division 1 league final in July, an evening that offered a preview of how narrow the margins may be again on Sunday.
This tie also carries the tension of Group 3’s structure. With Ballincollig and Clonakilty also in the mix, every point has been precious, and both Castlehaven and Knocknagree have shown enough across the opening rounds to believe they belong in the knockout stages.

What elevates the fixture further is the sense of narrative. Knocknagree’s journey from Junior A to Premier Senior inside a decade meets Castlehaven’s long-established senior tradition in a straight shootout for progression.
