Cork Draghunting: Border Mystery lands the spoils at Monard

Butler Technologies will sponsor Sunday’s Donal O’Mahony meeting at Blarney on Sunday with four races on offer for draghunting enthusiasts.

The company based in Maynoothprovide testing and monitoring for many industries and help businesses around the globe.

The company are Irish-owned with a multi-skilled team specializing in engineering, sourcing and end-to-end supply chain.

Speaking on behalf of the company, managing partner Aidan Butler was happy to be associated with Cork’s oldest outdoor sport.

“As a company we are happy to be involved with the Cork City and County Harriers association as we know this meeting is one of most popular in their calendar and let’s hope all participants have a day to remember,” said Aidan Butler.

The meeting will begin with the Puppy slip scheduled at 1pm with the big race of the day the Senior race due to be slipped at 3pm.

Northern Hunt hosted their annual Senior meeting at Monard on Sunday evening and what a day it proved for Shanakiel Harriers, trainer Barry O’Keeffe as his charge Border Mystery landed the spoils in impressive fashion.

The heat of the day forced the host club to reduce the course but in a good finish the winner saw off the Pat O’Mahony-trained Hannah Bawn of Kerry Pike/Fair Hill Harriers.

Misty of Shanakiel Harriers snatched third ticket with the winning trainer praising the determination of his hound.

“To be honest, Border Mystery is a hound that has given our family lots of fun and it would be nice to be in the tickets on Sunday at the Donal O’Mahony meeting in Blarney,” said Barry O’Keeffe.

Draghunting supporters like nothing better than witnessing a hound producing a top- class finish and that was certainly the case with the winner of the Senior maiden draghunt.

Magic’s Pride trained by Denise Rall of Mayfield came from fourth on the call to cross the tape ahead of Casey Jack trained by Ger and Jennifer Kenneally of Southern/Carrigaline Harriers with Pixie’s Mexican Dream in third place for Shanakiel Harriers trainer Mary Barrett.

The Puppy meeting at the same venue proved to be another success for championship leader Mossy’s Diamond as she produced another classy finish to cross the tape ahead of the Mary Barrett Shanakiel harriers ace Charlotte’s Lass.

In a good finish Putting on the Style of Clogheen filled third ticket with the winning trainer Kyle McCarthy praising the performance of his quality hound.

“The one plus for us is that we know Mossy’s Diamond will always give 100% when she is slipped and our hound has given us great fun all season,” said Kyle.

A small field in the Puppy maiden draghunt saw the honours go the Gerry Murphy and Sheila Cummins Shanakiel Harriers trained Naoi’s Boy who saw off the challenge of Mannix and Black Paddy with Patch of Griffin United the final placed hound.
