Tommy Hyde moves towards title shot with his 11th knockout

Cork professional boxer Tommy 'The Governor' Hyde put in another wonderful performance when he stopped American southpaw Vaughn Williams in a Light Heavyweight contest at Santa Monica Pier, California, in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Tommy is now 16-0, with a very impressive 11 of those fights coming by way of knockout and got the American Williams out of there early with a fourth-round knockout.
He had Williams on the seat of his pants twice in the third round and the American was on the canvas again early in the fourth round after a punishing right to the head. However, the American showed his bravery to get up and make the count again, but Hyde pounced on his opponent and delivered a chopping right to drop Williams again.
Hyde’s last two fights were on home soil, where he headlined his father’s Nowhere2Hyde cards in the GUC Parochial Arena and stopped Mexican Paul Valenzuela last November and in April, when he stopped English fighter Mick Hall early in the third round.
Both fighters made a bright start to the fight with the Cork man boxing behind his left jab and trying to measure the distance between Williams and himself. The American was comfortable, especially on home soil, and he was using his right jab to keep Hyde at bay. However, it was the Cork man who landed the cleaner work to take the round.
In the second round, Hyde started with his excellent boxing skills coming to the fore and rocked Williams with a good combination of left jab to the head and a powerful right to his opponent’s body. Tommy, in the best shape of his life, now had the measure of his opponent and had him in trouble at the end of the round with a flurry of punishing shots that had the bell saving Williams.
Hyde went to work again at the start of the third round and when he landed a powerful overhead right and Williams hit the deck. The American made the count, but Hyde continued to pile on the pressure and had him on the canvas again later in the round.
Hyde was now in full control of the fight and started the fourth round by cutting of the ring, then he then landed another heavy shot to drop Williams again. The American bravely got to his feet. Hyde was in no mood to mess around and when he landed another chopping heavy right, Williams was on the canvas again so the referee stepped in to end the fight.
This was another excellent performance from and he has shown in his last three performances a deserved title fight is certainly only around the corner.
